Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay, born August 24, 1972, raised in Long Beach California. DuVernay grew up with her aunt Denise, who encouraged DuVernay to pursue her artistic talents and be inspired by the arts. Aunt Denise worked the night shift in the role of a nurse so that she could indulge her passion for literature and theatre throughout the day. The aunt introduced DuVernay to the film of 1961 West Side Story and DuVernay became enthralled by the film. DuVernay recognized that art is an effective tool for promoting social activism. DuVernay was raised by a mother who was conscious of her social status and taught her how to use the arts as a way of expressing herself. Although DuVernay spent her childhood in Compton with her parents, she lived in Lowndes County Alabama where her father's family grew up for generations. The DuVernay's father was a witness to the marches for civil rights over the Edmund Pettus Bridge and the local town of Selma Alabama. DuVernay was able to use the summers she spent there to inspire her film Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In 1990 DuVernay was a graduate of Saint Joseph High School in Lakewood California. Following graduation, she went to in the University of California Los Angeles where she earned certificates in English as well as African American studies. DuVernay began to develop an interest in journalistic broadcasting while in school. She started as an intern with CBS News, during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay recalled being given the task of watching the home and looking through the waste of one of jurors. When she was dissatisfied with journalistic work by the assignments she was given, DuVernay chose to go on to a job in public relations. DuVernay got her first job as a publicity specialist in an unassuming production studio after college. In 1999, she founded her own private company for public relations called The DuVernay Agency. The agency has launched a wide range of lifestyle and promotion networks which include Urban Beauty Collective and Urban Eye. Autumn Riley.............................Autumn Riley was born in Los Angeles United States. Autumn Riley is born with the birth symbol. She is an actress of renown who was in American Experience (1987), A More Perfect Union (2009), and other films. Autumn played Rose in A More Perfect Union, and Anna Payne in American Experience.
