Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's attempts to gain mainstream fame were disastrous. Before any new material could even be put out two labels had signed and were able to drop Perry. Capitol Records, however, released Perry's Ur So Gay album in 2007 which was received with only modest approval for the title track. I Kissed a Girl was a more bold ode to sexism that was that was accompanied by a slashing electro-pop style. I Kissed a Girl was immediately a hit but the song quickly caused controversy. Many critics argued that the track encouraged sexual relationships between gay and straight men, however others believed that the scene which was depicted on the album attracted more male fantasies. I Kissed a Girl was a smash hit for Perry's The One of the Boys in 2008, thanks to the combination of titillation combined with polished melodicism. Hot N Cold was a success in the United States, and the album's second single Hot N Cold with its fast and bouncy beat became popular.
